So my Substack got suspended
"learn from my mistakes"
So, storytime.
On June 21st, my account got suspended. No clear reason given.
I woke up in a good mood, ready to check how my articles were performing, how my notes were reaching people, but instead I found my ID suspended. It sucks. Yup, you heard that right, it sucks. Feels like someone gut-punched me.
I started on June 11th with zero subscribers and reached 33 subs by June 20th. Just two weeks. Magic, honestly. And then, suspended.
Here’s what I’ve learned, the stuff I couldn’t find on any YouTube video or article anywhere. Learn from my mistakes and save your account.
1. Don’t use Notes to promote your own Substack.
You like commenting? Go for it. But don’t drop your own Substack link or your latest article link in Notes. Don’t do it; it’ll get your ID flagged and suspended under their spam policy.
2. Be authentic, but watch your language.
Don’t use foul words in your articles. Find a replacement or use a similar word instead.
3. If your ID gets suspended for no clear reason, use the appeal section.
You get up to 200 characters of context, not words, characters, so be on point and polite. Write in a requesting tone. Then wait up to 24 hours for Substack’s response.
4. If you appealed and waited with no response, go back to the appeal or support section.
Raise your concern with the support team. They’ll likely ask you to keep checking the appeal page until you’re able to submit again.
5. If none of that works, email Substack support directly.
Write a precise email covering all your concerns, and be patient. Wait calmly. That’s exactly what I did. Keep your mind busy, write a new article, brainstorm new topics, whatever keeps you moving. Just don’t lose hope. Stay positive. You’ll get your account back in no time.
I hope my mistakes become a lesson for every new Substacker starting from zero. Nobody guided me through this, but I’m here to guide you.
No article or YouTube channel explains this stuff. So consider yourself lucky you’re reading this one.
Stay light about it. If you’re here reading this, it’s probably one of two things: your ID is suspended, or you want to be prepared in case it happens. Either way, I hope you get your account back as fast as I get mine back.
See you around. Until next time.
